Grey data: NGT panel suggests different site for new collectorate The Times of India
The committee formed by National Green Tribunal (NGT), to look into the environmental implications of constructing a new district collectorate in Professor’s Colony, has found that the environmental clearance for the project was granted based on “incorrect data” and has recommended that the clearance be revoked.
The proposed site is near the Lower Lake, a part of the Bhoj Wetland — a recognized Ramsar site. The committee has suggested that the Madhya Pradesh govt should find an alternative location for the collectorate, as the current proposal includes construction within 50 meters of the Lower Lake’s mean high flood level, which goes against the Wetland Rules of 2017. Any permanent construction within this distance is prohibited to protect the integrity of the wetland.
